Behold the Lamb of God, December 10th & 11th

We are preparing for our annual production of “Behold the Lamb of God: The True Tall Tale of the Coming King.” This is a great opportunity to invite your friends to a community event where they will hear the Gospel story presented in a unique way.

“Behold the Lamb of God” is a concept concert written by singer/songwriter Andrew Peterson. A concept concert is a collection of songs that tell a complete story. (A famous example of this would be Pink Floyd’s “The Wall.”)

Behold the Lamb of God tells the story of the anticipation of Christ’s coming (Advent) and His birth, while foreshadowing His life, death, and resurrection. The style of the production mixes elements of acoustic folk and bluegrass, with American rock.  We will begin the show with “Songwriters in the Round,” a singer/songwriter showcase that will feature these area artists: Jared Lyndsey, Lyndsay Taylor, Josh Brown, Rachel Bauer, and Bjorn and Tara.  In true Bridge fashion, there will be coffee served.

Behold the Lamb of God Documentary

Behold the Lamb of God will be on December 10th & 11th @ 3p at Elizabethtown’s Historic State Theater.   Doors open at 2:30pm.  The cost is $5 and half of the ticket costs will go to benefit Lincoln Village Youth Development Center and enrichment programs. Hope you will be able to attend with family and friends!

Here’s a clip from a previous performance. (Dates and times on video do not apply.)

Food Supply in the Food Pantry

Did you know we have a food pantry at the Nexus Building?

We usually get a couple of opportunities each week to meet the needs of people who come in. Supplying food for people is one way we extend the love and grace of Jesus to our community!

As a result of this ministry opportunity, we have a recurring need for a few items. Any time you want to bring an item on the list below, we’re happy to receive the donation! So, think about these things and pick up a few extra next time you’re at the grocery. Send us an email or comment here on this blog if you have any questions.

We ask that all donations to the pantry need to be non-perishable, unexpired food items.  You can click here for a printable list of these items.

Back to School Block Party

We’re throwing a party for the community on the last Friday night of Summer!

The Bridge Community Outreach Event Back to School Block Party

On July 29th, we invite all students — from pre-schoolers to seniors in high school — to enjoy the fun.  Free inflatables, games, and food!  We’ll be giving away free school supplies to the first 300 students who register.  In addition, there will be drawings throughout the night for backpacks, gift cards, and other special prizes.

You’ll be hearing much more about it as the day draws closer; but for now, we want to give everyone an opportunity to help out and prepare for the event.

Contact the planning team if you want to jump in and help with the organizing and behind-the-scenes prep work.

Want to make a donation?  Here are the supplies we’ll be collecting:

Must Haves:

Crayons, #2 pencils, glue sticks, erasers, notebook paper, rulers, and scissors

Backpacks:

We hope to give away 100 new backpacks

Gift Cards:

Old Navy, Target, Wal-Mart … we’re thinking new clothes for back-to-school!

Grand Prizes:

We hope to have a couple of new bikes, maybe a Wii or XBox, who knows …!!

If you want to donate toward any of these, please bring your items to our Sunday morning worship gatherings in July or email us to arrange a time for dropping them off at the Nexus Building.

Help for Spouses of Fallen Soldiers in the 3/1 Brigade

I’m posting to let you know about a need and an opportunity to serve. Please take a minute and read the letter I received from Janna, a military spouse in our community who works with Operation Faithful Support on Fort Knox.

———-

Hello everyone,

I am apart of a volunteer group called Operation Faithful Support. This is a program that supports the spouses of deployed soldiers which, as most of you know, is currently the 3/1 Brigade. I went through this program personally when my husband was deployed and I can tell you it made a huge difference to me! It is a faith-based relational program that meets every third Sunday to talk about issues that come with the deployment process. Our goal is to show God’s love to these families and help keep their marriages strong.

Recently, there have been multiple casualties in 3/1. As you might imagine, this has severely affected many of the spouses. As a result, they have asked us to set up a crisis session for them to better deal with these losses.

Unfortunately, the church that we usually meet in is not available at this time. I am asking if The Bridge Community would be willing to provide a place to meet, as well as volunteers for childcare for this crisis session.

Would you be willing to help us? We will need several people to care for the children and provide a welcoming, loving presence. It is this coming Sunday, May 1, from 3:30 to 6:00pm.

Your sister in Christ,
Janna Servideo

If you can help this Sunday, please send an email now!

Here are all the things we know of that need attention this month.  Some of them we’ll get to as a group on Saturday.  Others will need to be addressed by volunteers throughout the month (if you can’t be there Saturday but would like to help with some of these issues, send us an email).

Snow and Bad Weather Plans

December 11, 2010 admin 2 Comments » Announcements

You wake up on a Sunday morning to see a blanket of snow, or a sheet of ice … what do you do?!  How do you know if we’re meeting for worship?

Here’s the plan:

Anytime we get snow or ice, the first thing we ask you to do is check your email or here at the website.  If we make a decision to meet on a delay or to cancel the worship gathering, we’ll use our email list and the home page of the website to get the word out.  If you haven’t signed up for the email list, now’s the time!  Click here to fill out the very simple sign-up form.

If the power is out or you’re unable to access a computer, we will also leave a message on the church phone answering service.  You can hear the details by calling 734-9003.

We’ll make a posting with all the local media outlets also, but the fastest way to find out will be email, website, or phone.

Behold the Lamb of God, December 5th @ 3p in the Historic State Theater

Update on Renovations at the Nexus Building

I want to let you know what’s going on at the building.  Over the next two weeks, contractors will be at the building working on connecting the gas for heat (yes, it seems it’s that time of year!) and hooking up all the lights in the multi-purpose room, among other things.  But, as it’s been throughout this project, most of the labor is going to be done by volunteers!

I’d like to ask you to take a look at the link below, please.  It shows a list of jobs remaining to complete this phase of the renovation.  The goal is to finish by Thanksgiving!

List of Remaining Jobs

As you look down the list, you’ll see one or two things you could help with — I’m sure of it!  If you can give any time in the next two weeks, day or evening, please send an email to info@bridgecommunity.org and let us know your availability.

There will be two more organized work days:

  • This Thursday (11/11) evening from 6:30 – 8:30
  • Next Saturday (11/20) from 9am – 2pm with lunch provided!

If you can come for either of these group work times, great – please send an email to info@bridgecommunity.org if you plan on coming.

But what if you can’t come on either of these organized times?  Well, that’s where we’ll be flexible!  If you can come and do a job or two – any time – an hour here or there – please let us know and we’ll do everything we can to make sure you have the tools and materials needed.  Just send us an email with the times you can volunteer and we’ll set it up!

Thanks for all you’ve done so far!  Look forward to working with you a couple more times before the holiday season begins!

Peace
Wayne

As a “PS,” I want to share with you just SOME of the things going on at the building in the next two months …

Next Sunday afternoon (11/21), Matt and Joanna will be having a CD Release Party in the cafe; each Wednesday evening, the youth meet in the large classroom; Monday evenings, a big group of talented musicians and all-around cool folks are preparing for this year’s Behold the Lamb performance!  Open House continues to worship and welcome new people in each Saturday night.  In December, we’ll be having a special Christmas Cafe on the 17th and a Christmas Eve candlelight service …  And this is without even mentioning that nearly every day, we have the opportunity to welcome guests into the front door who have practical needs we’re able to help with.

These are just a few of the reasons to put in the time to finish the space!  Hope you can come help out!

Youth Ministry at The Bridge: A Conversation …

For at least a few months, there has been a growing conversation echoing around The Bridge Community. We’ve seen an obvious void in ministry for a couple of years now.  A group of incredibly important people are being missed:  youth in grades 6-12!

A handful of people have sensed God’s leading to do something about it. What about you?  Do you want to be part of something new?!

September 1 from 7:00 – 8:30, at the Nexus Building, we want to host a continuation of the conversation that’s already begun. We’ll have an open forum to talk about the needs of our kids and their friends and how we can reach disconnected youth.  And we want to hear from you!  Especially if you’d like to serve in this new ministry, we hope you’ll come!

This Week: Ways to Serve and Connect

We believe the Christian life is not a spectator sport and it wasn’t meant to be lived solo, so here are a few ways to plug in and connect with others this week!

Outreach Event Saturday

Open House is giving away an iPadThis Saturday is the annual Heartland Festival at Freeman Lake Park.  Our friends with Open House are doing a fun outreach that day.  They’ll be walking around the park handing out free drinks and registering people to win a free iPad.  It is $1 to enter to win and all the money is going to benefit the work of Warm Blessings, Inc..  You can read more about the event here.

Here are the ways you can plug in and serve:

  • 1st Shift – 9am – 12:30pm
  • 2nd Shift – 12:30pm – 3:30pm

Each shift needs 8 people:  4 people to run the booth and converse with people; 4 people to walk around the festival passing out bottled Gatorade and water.

We also need 2 people to help load up supplies at the Nexus Building at 8am on Saturday.

Please contact Mike Steele if you will be available to help during either time slot.  More details will come to those who sign-up.

Fish Fry, Community Group Kickoff!

The Community Group led by Randy Ramsey will be starting up again after a summer break.  Anyone who would like to connect with this Sunday night group is invited to a fish-fry at the Ramsey home Sunday night.  Be sure to contact Laura to find out the details.

Hospitality on Sunday Mornings

We’re looking for a few more people to fill out the schedule for Sunday morning’s food and coffee table.  Are you interested in helping make the space a bit more welcoming by setting up the food table, making coffee, or serving?  Contact Shaun Brock to let him know.

Work Night, Wednesday

From 6:00-9:00 pm, we’ll be doing renovation projects at the building.  We hope to finish the flooring in the hallway and knock out a few more “finishing touch” projects around the building.

Clean-Up on Saturday

From 10:00 – Noon on Saturday, we’d like to have a team of 4 (at least) come to the Nexus Building to clean and prepare the space for Open House (Saturday evening worship) and our Sunday morning gathering.  If you’re interested in serving in this way, please email us.  Thanks!
